    The coffee pot is never left on, the lights are out, and the door is locked. You don’t miss much, and when it comes to checking the accuracy of data and claims, in fact, you don’t miss anything. You know AMA style like the back of your hand, and you can quickly commit brand and client styles to memory—and even develop them when needed. Your sharp eye is critical to ensuring high-quality deliverables.

     

    Copywriters rely on you. Associate Editors look up and want to be like you. They both depend on your knowledge and trust your instincts. Colleagues and clients rest easy knowing a piece has been through your review. You can cross every t and dot each i efficiently, keeping projects moving to help teams meet deadlines. You enjoy collaborating with team members to find solutions to problems and increase
    efficiency in processes. But you don’t need someone else’s permission to make the right call when it counts. The agency’s reputation for reliability sits partly on your shoulders, a burden you always carry confidently and with a smile.

     


    YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:


    • Cold read, copy edit, and proofread all brand-specific digital and print pieces from draft manuscript through print or digital production

    • Perform correction checks, slugs, first half of double reads, reference checks, ISI checks, disk releases, RVPs

    • Fact check material to verify accuracy of information, data, and claims
    • Attend hot sheet and kickoff meetings; participate in and influence the development of timelines 
    • Create and maintain editorial brand style guidelines and lead orientation for copywriters and editorial peers
    • Be responsible for the editorial integrity of all pieces that pass through your hands
    • Ensure all projects are effectively executed and delivered on time
    • Provide point of view and direction to internal team and associate editors that best fits the situation
    • Partner with PM/PC to create project timelines that are fair, accurate and ensure editorial rigor
    • Seek ways to model attitude and behaviors for junior staff, and engage them in reach initiatives when possible 
    • Be generous and share your editorial knowledge and expertise with your team
    • Ensure the accuracy of all material
    • Understand and interpret scientific and medical data
    • Demonstrat proficiency in AMA 10 and brand/client style
    • Work as though nobody is checking your work
    • Brainstorm with team members and other Editors to identify areas where improvement is needed
    • Initiate new processes within the Editorial department to improve accuracy and efficiency
    • Participate in internal training sessions
    • Read periodicals, attend presentations, industry events and advisory summits, and participate in group discussions with an eye towards advancing the editorial role

     

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


    • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or communications
    • Background in science or medicine a plus
    • 2+ years of editing experience in pharmaceutical advertising
    • Working knowledge of AMA style
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
    • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
    • Ability to lead a team and work under deadline pressure on multiple projects
    • Digitally savvy with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and electronic editing tools
    • Gets excited about working with people not just words on a screen
    • Motivated by being part of a dynamic and fast-paced team environment
    • Oriented towards problem-solving and influencing
    • Adept at building consensus and facilitating agreement
    • Anticipating roadblocks while there’s still time to do something about it
    • Be visible to agency leadership
    • Collaborating successfully with other Editors and members across the agency at all levels
