    We are seeking a seasoned Senior Editor. We are open to candidates in our Cleveland, OH area office (Beachwood), and New York City office.


    The Senior Editor is an experienced medical, scientific or technical editor with core competencies in editorial skill sets, compliance policies, and editorial best practices. Emphasis is on ongoing skills development, training in advanced editorial techniques across multiple project types, internalization of editorial and team and company policies, and expansion of health/science knowledge into multiple therapeutic areas and disease states as well as a familiarity with multiple client products. Additional training emphasizes skills development in peer review, working with Account Managers (AMs) and Program Managers (PMs) on project flow, and understanding editorial impact on meeting client needs across business segments.




    Editing, Proofreading, and Data Verification

    • Serves as primary editor on accounts and on cross-account projects
    • Independently follows editorial policies and processes
    • Independently completes a wide range of complex editing, proofreading, and data verification projects
    • Utilizes solid understanding of scientific concepts in multiple therapeutic areas to provide feedback on scientific content to writers
    • Keeps current with journal/congress guidelines and conflict-of-interest policies
    • Ensures high-quality publications/communications standards are met


    Team and Client Relations

    • Liaises with assigned account teams to identify client needs
    • Participates in regular account team update meetings
    • Communicates with AMs/PMs across account teams regarding project status and content issues
    • Work with AMs/PMs to help to determine level of edit, scheduling, deadline, and budget for new assignments
    • Works with AMs/PMs to anticipate and handle project-related decisions
    • Prioritizes assigned projects
    • Alerts Editorial Director about emergent workflow issues that might affect productivity
    • Recommends changes in editorial resources to meet identified client needs
    • Maintains independent account team/client interactions
    • Participates in regular editorial team update meetings
    • Participates in team-building activities


    Leadership and Mentorship

    • Reviews the work of new editors for data accuracy and editorial competency as assigned
    • Identifies needs and directs training of new editors as assigned
    • Communicates training needs to Editorial Director
    • Identifies improvements to SOPs for Editorial Director
    • Identifies need for and develops/conducts staff training as assigned


    Fiscal Responsibility

    • Consults with AMs in estimating editorial hours for project scope of work/budgets
    • Has awareness of budget and time constraints for projects
    • Voices concerns when project is moving out of scope

    • Minimum of a BA degree in English or journalism, or in science (with proficiency in English)
    • 3-6 years prior professional medical editing experience
    • Excellent editorial skills (resume, samples, and administered copyediting tests)
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
    • Must be proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, EndNote, Acrobat commenting tools, and internet research techniques (familiarity with MEDLINE/PubMed is preferred); experience with WorkFront and Excel is desired
    • Membership in the American Medical Writers Association or comparable professional association is preferred
    • Credentialed ELS through the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences is preferred
